Professor Dr. Lahcen Ouri

Professor Dr. Lahcen Ouri is a prominent Moroccan academic specializing in contemporary history and the history of Morocco during the French Protectorate. He has combined university teaching, research supervision, and active participation in national and international scholarly circles. He currently holds the position of Full Professor (A) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Saïs – Fez, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, and has accumulated nearly three decades of academic experience in university teaching and research supervision.

Dr. Ouri earned his PhD in Contemporary History in 2004, followed by the University Qualification Certificate in 2011. His research focuses on the political and social structure of Morocco during the French colonial period, with particular attention to national movements and Moroccan-Mediterranean relations. He has supervised numerous Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations and has participated in many scientific examination committees both in Morocco and abroad.

He has held several academic and administrative positions, including Director of the Research Laboratory on Moroccan-Mediterranean Cultural Relations (2014–2017) and Head of the “History and Heritage of the Maghreb States” research team. He also contributed to the Regional Archives House Project for the Fez-Meknes region (2017–2020). Dr. Ouri is a member of international and national scholarly bodies, such as the Secretariat of the International Union of Historians for Development, Culture, and Social Sciences (Denmark), the Moroccan Association for Historical Research, and other cultural and community organizations concerned with heritage and development.

He has participated in dozens of national and international conferences and symposia, presenting research on Moroccan cultural heritage, political history, tribal customs, national movements, and colonial experiences in North Africa. He has published numerous peer-reviewed studies and academic articles in both Arabic and French and has contributed to specialized collective works. Among his notable publications is “Organization of Jewish Institutions in Morocco (1918–1938)” (Fez, 2017), along with contributions on topics such as traditional crafts, political elites, and Moroccan student migration.
